In this book, I set my sight on Morrison’s most representative work Beloved, which has a powerful depiction of family relationships and Mann’s At Twelve, Immediate Family, and Proud Flesh, which are based on Mann’s own family and others.
In each spread, I picked an excerpt from Beloved and a piece of Mann’s work which has a corresponding relationship with the selected paragraph. Sometimes they share a same topic, sometimes they echo a same sentiment or atmosphere, and sometimes they introduce a co-responsive attitude to the same issue.
All the excerpts are presented in the original order. My own interpretation of those pieces are recorded as the footnotes.
